Smoke Detectors - Are Your Rental Properties Compliant with the Law?

Smoke detectors in a rental property are not only a necessity they are required! If you own a rental property in California, as a landlord you have certain responsibilities under the law. This includes ensuring your rental units have working smoke detectors throughout the property to alert tenants in case of a fire. Moreover, the smoke alarms you have in each rental unit must have a 10-year lifespan! And, while smoke detectors are mandatory in all rental properties so are carbon monoxide detectors. As of January 1, 2016, owners of rental units must install smoke alarms in each bedroom or other sleeping area. What’s more, is your smoke alarms must meet all of the fire marshal’s requirements. The reality is, law or no law landlords are responsible for the fire safety of their tenants! If you need more information about following the extensive laws in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties, get in touch with Bell Properties, Inc today.  We'll guide you and help you protect your investment property so every tenant is safe and the guidelines are followed to the letter.  Bell Properties, Inc specializes in property management in Southern California, with an emphasis in luxury residential, commercial, commercial plazas, office high-rise, luxury high-rise, multi-family and residential over commercial.
